What is BitTorrent protocol?

BitTorrent is a file distribution system used for transferring files across network of people. As you download a file, BitTorrent places what you download on upload for other users; when multiple people are downloading the same file at the same time they upload pieces of the file to each other. BitTorrent pieces together the file you are downloading, to where the first part of a file you get may be the last part someone else gets. As you continue to retrieve the file, BitTorrent also uploads data to other users. Here is Wikipedia article if you’d like to know more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

What is torrent file?

Torrent file is a computer file that contains metadata about files and folders to be distributed, and usually also a list of the network locations of trackers, which are computers that help participants in the system find each other and form efficient distribution groups. A torrent file does not contain the content to be distributed; it only contains information about those files, such as their names, sizes, folder structure, and cryptographic hash values for verifying file integrity.
Torrent files are normally named with the extension .torrent, as in MyFile.torrent. Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrent_file

What is magnet link?

A BitTorrent magnet link contains all the information needed to start downloading the files from peers directly. It is a server-less way of retrieving the right information to start downloading the requested files. A magnet link allows you to download files from other peers in the BitTorrent network without the need to download torrent files. Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet_link

What is torrent tracker?

A BitTorrent tracker is a server that assists in the communication between peers using the BitTorrent protocol. But usually people call web sites that index torrents a torrent tracker.

Why my downloads are slow?

BitTorrent is a distributed Peer to Peer protocol, which means that there is no central storage for the content you are downloading. Instead, torrent content is distributed between other BitTorrent clients like yours. The more clients or peers have this torrent opened, the faster your download would be. There are some abandoned torrents which no one is seeding anymore. So our suggestion would be to select torrents with a higher number of seeds and peers. This would speed up your download.

I see “service unavailable” error message when I’m trying to search for torrents. What is wrong?

We rely on torrent tracker web sites in order to provide search functionality. Those web sites might be down or blocked by Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

If you see this error message, please try another provider by selecting one in a drop-down list next to the search button. If none of them works for you, then still can add torrents or magnet links from other sources. Here is a list of most popular trackers: http://torrentfreak.com/top-10-most-popular-torrent-sites-of-2013-130106/

I don’t see my favorite torrent tracker in a list, can you add it?

Please send us an email at torrentrts@gmail.com, and we’ll try to do that.
